2. Great slideshow. The pic of Steiner is funny. The climb is tough. I went to the top outpost at the same place. That's the BaDaLing portion of the wall. The pollution didn't look too bad, but hard to tell. Wonderful pics, looks like it was cold.

7. I'll be watching-- staying up until 4 or so. It will make my normal nights staying up til 1 seem not so bad.
Posted by: gpellamjr | March 14, 2008 at 09:36 PM
8. I see Matt Kemp is showing proper respect to a veteran player and allowing Andruw Jones to start in the first game. He must have received a call from Jeff Kent. :-)

10. (Reposting from prev thread)
108 - Sigh, indeed, Train. :-( I knew that was going to be a trap game, they just couldn't beat UCI this year, don't know why. But as I told my dad tonight, if they couldn't beat UCI it's not like they'd win a game in the NCAA's this year either. NIT, here they come. (Did you watch the game on ESPNU? I only followed some of it via a gamecast.)
They have a superb recruiting class coming in the next two years so hopefully they'll make a stronger postseason showing then. Feh.
Darn, no Dodgers game on TV tonight. Guess I'll finish watching the rest of the DVD I have queued up - The Seven Ups. 2nd Best car chase ever.

14. Bob's favorite announcer (maybe Derek Lowe's, too; you never know), has the play by play on the mlb.tv feed.
The stadium is not full. Lots of available seats in the LF pavilion, if anybody in the neighborhood is still thinking about dropping in.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:09 PM
15. Dang!
No TV, no affiliates on radio. No gameday even.
Anybody here on DT want to log the play by play?

16. Many a Cougar big man is going to foul out tonight.
Posted by: Bob Timmermann | March 14, 2008 at 10:15 PM
17. Lombard grounded out to second to lead it off.
Hu grounded to short.
Kemp did the same.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:16 PM
18. Not sure if anyone has mentioned, the game from China is on MLBTV right now. It's the San Diego feed.

21. Vasgersian says Chan Ho Park's comeback is a great story. The color commentator is more sensible.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:19 PM
22. Hairston grounds out to start the first for the Padres.
Robles grounds back to the pitcher.
Kouzmanoff strikes out swinging.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:23 PM
23. Third Border Patrol recruiting commercial I've seen so far.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:25 PM
24. Johnny!
Posted by: Jon Weisman | March 14, 2008 at 10:26 PM
25. Vasgersian can't tell Jones from Kemp.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:26 PM
26. Anybody here want to be a border patroller? ("Technically a commercial break" according to Padres announcers. What else would it be?)
Posted by: berkowit28 | March 14, 2008 at 10:26 PM
27. Game is on MLB tv, but I do not have a subscription; I trust the game isn't free tonight, is it?
Posted by: LogikReader | March 14, 2008 at 10:27 PM
28. No ads yet for home remodeling or pool maintenance that look like they were shot with a $100 budget?

29. Lucas!
Posted by: Jon Weisman | March 14, 2008 at 10:27 PM
30. 17 . Lombard grounded out to second to lead it off.
Hu grounded to short.
Kemp did the same.
The lineup posted this morning on Inside the Dodgers had Jones batting 3rd and Kemp in the cleanup spot. Did Jones get on base or did they change the lineup?
Posted by: Dodgers49 | March 14, 2008 at 10:28 PM
31. guys you can watch the game on sopcast :) nice hit by lucas
Posted by: k0b3 | March 14, 2008 at 10:28 PM
32. 30. they changed the lineup. Kempt is DH-ing and hit 3rd. Jones lined out the center, Kemp grounded out to short
Posted by: k0b3 | March 14, 2008 at 10:29 PM
33. Aron Baynes was unfouled out of the game after a video review. I've never seen that before.
Posted by: Bob Timmermann | March 14, 2008 at 10:31 PM
34. Jones lines out to center.
Zappala's pet (Lindsey) singles to center.
Lucas May doubles down the left field line (Lindsey stopping at third).
Tiffee grounds out to the catcher (looked foul to me, but they didn't have the worm's eye view camera embedded in the dirt in front of home); runners stay put.
Ford-Griffin lines out to Robles, softly.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:32 PM
35. 28 Now there is.
Posted by: berkowit28 | March 14, 2008 at 10:33 PM
36. Vasgersian was quite pleased to see cheerleaders storm the field, just before the game went to commercial. Something Easterbrookian is sure to unfold, once the game comes back on.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:33 PM
37. Vasgerzian also can't tell Adrian Gonzalez from Kouzmanoff.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:35 PM
38. This is a truly horrible broadcast team. Their normal awful announcing is only emphasized by the condescending way they are describing the Chinese fans.
"ha ha they make noise when the ball is hit. They don't know anything about baseball!"
Posted by: gpellamjr | March 14, 2008 at 10:35 PM
39. Nice curvball from Chan Ho park to Myrow.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:37 PM
40. I don't see any explanation for the cancellation of this evenings KCAL telecast. Both newspapers listed the game in today's paper. I can't help but feel that this is a bit of a PR debaucle. The first professional baseball game ever played in China, what could have happened? Problems with licensing the MLB broadcast? Acrimony left over from the KFWB exodus?
Something smells fishy here.
Posted by: Dodger Tony | March 14, 2008 at 10:38 PM
41. Gonzalez grounds out to first.
Myrow lines out.
Louis Rodriguez grounds to Hu, who muffs it (obligatory who's on first nonsense from the booth).
Will Venable grounds out to second.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:40 PM
42. Scott Fence will sell you used chain link fence for $3.90 a square foot!
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:42 PM
43. I would guess KCAL couldn't get announcers on short notice or pay for the satellite feed.
Posted by: Bob Timmermann | March 14, 2008 at 10:42 PM
44. 41. Please keep the updates coming.

45. Lucille II bounces out to short.
Lombard goes long!
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:45 PM
46. Lombard's lumber
Posted by: Dodger Tony | March 14, 2008 at 10:45 PM
47. Hu strikes out swinging at a curveball in the dirt.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:46 PM
48. Kemp does the same.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:48 PM
49. Stanford up by 3 with 24 seconds left.
Posted by: Bob Timmermann | March 14, 2008 at 10:49 PM
50. The Stanford band is playing Holst.
Posted by: Bob Timmermann | March 14, 2008 at 10:50 PM
51. This is off subject for a second - and I'm glad to see the game is on MLBTV at least, even if not KCAL. But...
so I found one of my favorite Kids in the Hall sketches on YouTube and had forgotten that the kid in the "Paint your chair" sketch was wearing a Dodgers shirt. How random.

Posted by: underdog | March 14, 2008 at 10:50 PM
52. At least FOX is tracking the game on their scoreboard for whatever that's worth. Although they're about half an inning behind.
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/scores
Posted by: Dodgers49 | March 14, 2008 at 10:51 PM
53. 50 I'm not watching, but I imagine if Stanford band was playing anything by Holst, it must be "Mars" from "The Planets"...
Posted by: Dane Bramage | March 14, 2008 at 10:52 PM
54. Park induces a grounder to 3rd and then strikes out the next batter, Drew Macias. Have to admit, Park looks good so far.
Posted by: underdog | March 14, 2008 at 10:53 PM
55. Hundley grounds out to third.
Drew Macias strikes out looking.
Hairston flies to right.
End of the third, Dodgers one, Padres squat.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:53 PM
56. Well, Stanford tried to give it away.
Posted by: Jon Weisman | March 14, 2008 at 10:54 PM
57. Chan Ho looks awesome today. Great control, awesome movement. Makes me feel nostalgiac.
Posted by: gpellamjr | March 14, 2008 at 10:54 PM
58. Fourth Border Patrol recruiting spot. I smell a drinking game. . .
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:55 PM
59. The drinking game is when you become a Border Patrol agent. That job would just make me fear running into Anton Chigurh somewhere.
So Jones has a poor at bat and strikes out on 3 pitches, and then Lindsey grounds out.
Posted by: underdog | March 14, 2008 at 10:58 PM
60. Jones strikes out on a check swing.
Lindsey grounds out to third, hard.
May strikes out swinging at a curveball in the dirt.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 10:58 PM
61. And May strikes out, too. Germano looks good as well.
And I'm calling it a night. On media overload here.
Posted by: underdog | March 14, 2008 at 10:59 PM
62. 59- You should keep doing the play-by-play (we have an obligation to Xei). I have to step outside for a minute.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 11:00 PM
63. No! Alright, somebody else, though.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 11:01 PM
64. Jones held up on that strike 3 call. I think that's the third questionable strike call on check swings.
Posted by: gpellamjr | March 14, 2008 at 11:02 PM
65. Yes, please keep the play by play going. Sounds like quite a pitchers duel. Andrew stepped out for some dumplings and cracker jacks?
vr, Xei
Posted by: Xeifrank | March 14, 2008 at 11:03 PM
66. Insightful Padres announcers seeing things no one else can see:
Grant: "Do you think Andruw Jones has lost some weight? Trimmed down a little?"
Vsgrgn agreed.
Now Grant is mocking the Chinese fans some more for making noise on a throw to first.
Posted by: gpellamjr | March 14, 2008 at 11:03 PM
67. single to center by old friend Oscar Robles, ground out to second by Kouzmanoff...Robles advaces to second
Posted by: arbfuldodger | March 14, 2008 at 11:05 PM
68. they also seem to have a thing for cheerleaders between the innings
Posted by: arbfuldodger | March 14, 2008 at 11:06 PM
69. grounder to short w/ Hu bobbles but gets Gonzalez out @ 1st ...Robles to 3rd
Posted by: arbfuldodger | March 14, 2008 at 11:08 PM
70. 65 Inside the Dodgers is offering play-by-play also. So if the guys here have to go to bed you can switch over there. :-)

Posted by: Dodgers49 | March 14, 2008 at 11:08 PM
71. Padre announcers sound pretty lame. They should have them try to announce a game of mah-jong and see how they do!
vr, Xei
Posted by: Xeifrank | March 14, 2008 at 11:09 PM
72. Wow Lucas May just threw the ball to the SS (looked like he tried not to throw the ball but couldnt hold up the throw) instead of CHP and now its 1-1 ...someone from the dugout (not sure which one asked May...how did you grip that?)
Posted by: arbfuldodger | March 14, 2008 at 11:11 PM
73. Terry Tiffee leads off the inning and singles to center
Posted by: arbfuldodger | March 14, 2008 at 11:15 PM
74. The judges reject Vasgersian's theory that it's ironic that Tiffee's first MLB at bat was against Chan Ho Park.
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 11:15 PM
75. single to right for John-Ford Griffin... Tiffe to 2nd
Posted by: arbfuldodger | March 14, 2008 at 11:17 PM

Posted by: arbfuldodger | March 14, 2008 at 11:24 PM
78. Hu softly lines into a double play
Posted by: arbfuldodger | March 14, 2008 at 11:25 PM
79. 74 -- From the Blackadder TV series:
Edmund: "Baldrick, have you no idea what irony is?"
Baldrick: "Yeah, it's like goldy and bronzy, only it's made of iron."

What inning etc...?

81. For those concerned about such things, the SECOND tournament is supposed to restart tomorrow afternoon at Georgia Tech. And the winner of the first game will likely have to play again that night.
Kentucky and Georgia do not like this.
Posted by: Bob Timmermann | March 14, 2008 at 11:32 PM
82. CHP gets the Pads out 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 5th, the last 2 on grounders to left side of the infield
Posted by: arbfuldodger | March 14, 2008 at 11:32 PM
83. 80 And... I'm back! For a few. My g/f seems to have developed a snoring habit. Either it's allergies, or she just suddenly got old.
Xei, it's 1-1, now 5 complete. Park looked really sharp.
Posted by: underdog | March 14, 2008 at 11:33 PM
84. Everybody drink!
Posted by: Andrew Shimmin | March 14, 2008 at 11:33 PM
85. Score is 1-1 around the 5th inning. Park is pitching really good. Only 1 run (unearned) and 1 hit allowed. Maybe Park like Giovanni Carrara can only pitch well in a Dodger uniform?
Posted by: dodgergabe | March 14, 2008 at 11:34 PM
86. I'm just sad they didn't take me along on the trip to be the token white guy translator. I could atleast order them some good food without having to point at the pictures. I could also help ask for directions to the nearest bathroom. That's about it. What else is important?
vr, Xei
Posted by: Xeifrank | March 14, 2008 at 11:35 PM
87. 1-1 top of 6th ...CHP goes 5 one hit innings and gives up one unearned run

93. 92. hmmmm, what the heck was that suppose to mean?
vr, Xei
Posted by: Xeifrank | March 14, 2008 at 11:42 PM
94. But not before saying, a hit by Lindsay and a hit by May drives in Jones. Then Lindsay's caught in a run down, stops down low, sending Kouz tumbling. Which makes Kouz upset and the Padres announcer upset for the "duck and roll." Whatever.
Posted by: underdog | March 14, 2008 at 11:43 PM
95. fly out to right by Tiffee to end the top of the 6th inning ...2-1 Dodgers
Posted by: arbfuldodger | March 14, 2008 at 11:44 PM
96. Guo now pitching for us
Posted by: arbfuldodger | March 14, 2008 at 11:46 PM
