Sutcliffe Has Colon Cancer

Barely a week after Davey Lopes' prostate cancer was revealed, his former teammate, Rick Sutcliffe, said in a statement that he has colon cancer.
In 1979, Lopes hit 28 homers and stole 44 bases in 48 attempts (.307 EQA) while Sutcliffe grabbed Rookie of the Year honors.
Best wishes to both.

1. Hear, hear. I hope for the best for both Sut and Lopes. I'm glad to know that in both cases, the form of cancer is treatable and curable.

3. I was 12-years old during Sutcliffe's rookie year. My friends and I used to play baseball in my driveway with a tennis ball and a plastic bat, and I used to imitate different Dodger pitchers. With that crazy behind the back wrist cock, Sutcliffe was one of my favorites to mimic.
Of course, we couldn't play baseball in the driveway when my father was home because, according to him, our 30 MPH throwing childhood arms were going to break the garage door--with a tennis ball! If it were Friday night or Saturday afternoon, we would head down the block and play in the driveway of an old Orthodox Jewish man named Sandy. We knew he was never going to be home on Friday night or Saturday afternoon!

4. My uncle Pat just went through 6 months of chemotherapy for colon cancer. It looks like he has beat it. My well wishes because I have seen what it does to a proud, strongly built man.

5. If there is any validity to the claim that we become what we think, then my wish is for everyone to please think cure.

6. My best wishes to Rick and anyone else for that matter who has cancer. I hope he caught it early. From what I understand early detection is really key.

7. Yes, best wishes to Sutcliffe, indeed. One of my favorite pitchers as a kid. Go beat it, Sut!
