Dodgers make deal to move radio flagship to KLAC next season

That dreamy, team-saving TV rights deal may currently remain out of reach of Frank McCourt and his Dodgers, but apparently there are no such holdups in securing a new radio deal.

The Dodgers have secured a new multiyear deal to move their local radio rights to KLAC-AM (570) beginning next season, said a person familiar with the matter on Friday who could not be identified because the deal has not been announced.

The Dodgers have been at talk-radio KABC-AM (790) for the last four seasons. KLAC uses an all-sports talk format.

The deal has been approved by Major League Baseball. The Dodgers are currently in bankruptcy, but it’s unknown if the court has granted permission for the team to secure the new Los Angeles-area radio rights deal.

The court does allow the Dodgers, as debtor in possession, to conduct ‘ordinary course of business’ unless someone objects.

The Dodgers are making their way around the radio dial. Previous flagship stations include KMPC (1958-60), KFI (1961-72), KABC (1973-97), KXTA (1998-2002) and KFWB (2003-2007).

All the team English and Spanish broadcasters are under direct contract with the Dodgers, and the team previously announced they would all return. The new deal, however, could affect the postgame work of Josh Suchon and Joe Block, who are under contract with KABC.

KLAC, home to Fox Sports Radio, also broadcasts UCLA football and basketball.
