And they said there was no fight in Mike Marshall.

Marshall, the former Dodgers outfielder now managing the Chico Outlaws of the independent North American Baseball League, was suspended three games for fighting Monday with Tony Phillips.

Yep, that Tony Phillips, the one who played in the major leagues for 18 seasons. And is still playing for the independent Yuma Scorpions -- managed by Jose Canseco.

Don’t worry if it feels a tad surreal. It should.

Phillips was also suspended three games and the league is considering suspending Canseco because he pulled his team from the game after the fight erupted into a baseball brawl. Canseco tweeted that he removed his team out of concern another fight would break out.

Marshall may regrettably be best remembered as the player who sat out a game for ‘general soreness’ and dated Go-Go’s lead singer Belinda Carlisle.

Coincidentally, the Go-Go’s received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday.

Better coincidence: Marshall batted cleanup on the 1988 Dodgers team that beat Phillips’ A’s in the World Series. That would be the A’s team for which Canseco batted third.

Phillips had apparently been jawing with the Chico bench earlier, and while playing third he said something to Marshall, who was in the third-base coaching box. The two ended up in a tussle. Marshall, 51, suffered facial injuries.
