If the mounting pressure is starting to get to Andre Ethier, safe to say he’s not showing it.

Ethier did it again Tuesday night, did like he seems to every night, driving a single over the glove of Cubs second baseman Darwin Barney to push his career-high hitting streak to 29.

That ties him with Zack Wheat (1916) for the second-longest hitting streak in franchise history. The only mark remaining is Willie Davis’ club record 31-game hitting streak set in 1969.

Ethier bounced into a double play in his first at-bat off Ryan Dempster with two runners on in the first inning, on what was probably ball four.

But the Dodgers were still without a hit when he came up with one out in the bottom of the fourth. After losing his bat, swinging it into the stands on a 1-1 pitch, Ethier simply got a new bat and sent Dempster’s next pitch just over the head of Barney.

Barney momentarily looked like he might have a play, but he dove backward awkwardly as the ball went just over his glove.

Ethier entered the game with a .368 lifetime batting average against Dempster, who was celebrating his 34th birthday Tuesday.
