Blake Hawksworth appears to be headed for DL as Dodgers reportedly call up Javy Guerra [Updated]

Javy-guerra_300 Blake Hawksworth, who hasn’t pitched since straining his groin on May 10, appears to be headed for the 15-day disabled list.

The Chattanoogan’s Dennis Norword reported Saturday that right-hander Javy Guerra has been called up from double-A to join the Dodgers.

[Updated at 11:45 a.m., May 15: The Dodgers made the move official prior to Sunday's afternoon game against the Diamondbacks.]

Guerra (pictured at right) is already on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster. He is 25 and in his third season with double-A Chattanooga. Guerra was 1-0 with three saves for the Lookouts. In 17 innings, he has given up eight hits and struck out 15, with an ERA of 1.06.

Hawkworth has a 3.12 ERA in 14 games as a middle reliever for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers’ bullpen has already been weakened by having to place Jonathan Broxton and Hong-Chih Kuo on the disabled list, but it’s not like there’s a wealth of pitching talent in their system.

Their top prospect at Chattanooga is not Guerra but Rubby De La Rosa, their reigning minor league pitcher of the year. De La Rosa has started six games for the Lookouts, and is 2-1 with a 2.10 ERA. He has struck out 44 in 34 1/3 innings.

The Dodgers apparently wanted to keep De La Rosa, 22, in a starting role and not rush his development.

Guerra is a poor man's Rudy Seanez, or the dudgers hope he may be (he walks too many batters but strikes out a good number.) His already being on the 40 man roster must have been the deciding factor (well that & the fact he's almost 26 years old & has spent 8 years in the minor leagues... i.e., it's his turn.)

what ever happened to Carlos Mono-stereo? or for that matter Lindbloom?
I thought both of those would be up with the big club by now?
