And on the second day, Juan Uribe rested.

Not planned, not what the Dodgers were counting on for their major offseason acquisition, but it’s how it played out.

Uribe was hit on the left arm just above the elbow Thursday by Tim Lincecum, and on Friday it was too stiff for him to play.

‘It hurts,’ Uribe said.

Uribe said he thought he would be out for a couple of days. Aaron Miles is scheduled to start at third in Uribe’s place against the Giants and bat eighth.

‘He came in today and it was swollen,’ said Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly. ‘Stan [Conte, team trainer] was actually a little surprised. [Uribe] can’t get it extended.’

Uribe, of course, played for the Giants last year when they stunned all of baseball by capturing the World Series. Then, he was Lincecum’s third baseman.

Uribe is scheduled to play second base for the Dodgers this season, but was playing third while Casey Blake is on the disabled list with a sore back.

The Dodgers have started the season with five players on the disabled list.

[Updated at 6:09 p.m.: The Dodgers had Uribe take precautionary X-rays before Friday’s game, and no structural damage was found.]
