Ted Lilly scratched from first start of spring; Jay Gibbons in lineup

Out for the last few days with the flu, Jay Gibbons will make his spring debut when the Dodgers face the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday at Camelback Ranch.

But the flu has forced another Dodger, Ted Lilly, to be scratched from what was supposed to be his first start of the spring. Manager Don Mattingly said Lilly might be out for a few more days.

Tim Redding, who pitched in South Korea last year, will start in Lilly’s place.

Dodgers’ lineup:

Carroll 3B
Navarro C
Ethier RF
Kemp CF
Kapler LF
Loney 1B
Gibbons DH
DeJesus 2B
Castro SS

Redding RHP

-- Dylan Hernandez in Phoenix

Why is Gabe Kaplan even getting ABs much less starts? Its obvious that Paul is being given zero opportunity (the Colletti way) to win a spot, but at the very least he should be getting some early spring starts to at least "showcase" him to a few other teams. Maybe a little hot streak gets him traded for something [however little] rather than let go for nothing since its not likely he'll get through waivers. Ned's about the biggest horse's (rear) I've ever seen GM a franchise.
.
Then again knowing Ned, he'd probably team Paul and Zach Lee for Dotel.

Kudo's to you Labeldude for calling it like it is!

Really Labeldude, he's the WORST GM you've ever seen? That's a ridiculous statement. Is he the best? Not even close. But the worst? Even further from the truth. The Dodgers haven't won a world series under his tenure, but they have had more success than about 20 other teams since he's been here which contradicts your point. I'm not satisfied unless we win a world series, so winning the division isn't enough, but your constant whining, along with about 90 % of the other commenters on this site does absolutely nothing. You think you are being realistic but you aren't, you are being overtly negative and pessimistic. You point out each little fault of this team and franchise without giving credit to any positive events or player skills and it's absolutely exhausting. I feel bad for you being such a negative person
