Jay Gibbons says new contact lenses have improved his vision considerably

Jay Gibbons was back in the Dodgers’ clubhouse on Thursday morning, saying he thinks his vision problems are finally behind him.

Gibbons, who is 2 for 22 this spring, was fitted for new contact lenses in San Francisco this week.

“It was night and day from the time I put them in,” he said.

Gibbons had complained that his old contact lenses were popping out. In San Francisco, he learned that there were problems with the lenses other than their size. The prescription was also wrong.

Because Gibbons’ $650,000 contract is guaranteed for only the major-league minimum of $400,000, the Dodgers could cut him without losing a significant amount of money.

Gibbons said he feels he has to show something in the final stretch of spring training.

“For myself and for the team,” he said. “I have to show I have some baseball ability in the next 10 days.”

Whoopie! That's great news!! We've now elevated our LF situation back to mediocre.

We don't think Jay wants to see this mess.

Gibbons' return is treated like it will affect the MVP balloting. It's like someone at the sportsdesk shouts Hold the presses! Gibbons' contacts fit! The sportswriters erupt in cheers, they race outside the building and there on the field is Gibbons blistering fastballs over the fence. The writers knowingly wink at one another and one is overheard muttering "Looks like i'll have to spend my bonus on that winter jacket for November in the Bronx after all!"

Meanwhile, back on Earth...

He get's the contact lenses in San Francisco...
In related news, the Defense Department has purchased new ammunition from Al Qaeda

Sweet!! Look out NL West -- the division now is ours to take!!!

Cue Randy Newman. Either his "The Natural" soundtrack, or "I Love L.A." -- either one will work here...

I don't believe him and if he got them in SF they are probably rigged to detonate @Mar.31. I thought they paid him a mil. There'[s hope for Sands breaking with the club! Or at least keeping DeJesus. We need some young fresh energy on this club badly.

Good luck, dude, the Dodgers could use a good lefty-handed hitter in left.

This is really bad timing for Gibby, ten days left and 2 fer 22. After all he's been through, what's to keep him from getting cut. He's got to get adjusted to his new sight, where did he get his previous eye prescription from?

People whose jobs depend on their eyesight being top notch and we have this from one of our possible everyday eight?

Hope its not like this with ... what ... say... an Air Force pilot, for example?

Just doesn't look smart on a lot of levels for a lot of people, especially the one most accountable, he of the 2-for-22. I know McCourt is tight with pay, but surely he's making enough to keep his lifeline going with proper optical care.

He should stop wearing the contact lens if his
eyes don't look good, feel good, or see good according to http://www.coloredcontacts.com
