Vicente Padilla returned to Camelback Ranch on Saturday morning with a three-inch scar and a white bandage covering his right elbow, his sense of humor still intact.

Padilla told some jokes and laughed about how bored he will be for the three or four weeks he’ll have to wait until he can resume throwing.

Padilla estimated that once he starts throwing he will need another three or four weeks to prepare himself for competition.

“If everything goes well, I can be pitching in two months,” Padilla said. “I should be able to come back 100%.”

Padilla said he was pleased with the operation he underwent on Thursday, which released a nerve that was entrapped in a muscle in his forearm.

He said he was never seriously concerned about the discomfort that led to the operation. He missed two months last season with a problem with the same nerve.

“I wasn’t that worried because this is the third year I’ve had this,” he said. “It wasn’t so much a pain as it was a pinch. Last year it was a lot more painful. I couldn’t even move my arm.”
