Really, now the Giants want the Dodgers to make nice?

Memo to the San Francisco Giants:

Celebrate on your own time. Pat yourselves on the back as scheduled. Don’t suddenly look south to your arch enemies and expect applause.

Hey, you won the World Series. Congratulations, you earned it. Be proud and all. I’m just so happy for you.

Only don’t expect the baseball schedule and the Dodgers to bow in ceremony.

Somehow it was leaked to the San Francisco Chronicle’s John Shea that ESPN and Major League Baseball want to move the Giants’ 2011 season opener at Dodger Stadium to San Francisco.

Now isn’t that sweet? Unveil your new banner at home in the season opener at Telephone Company Of The Week Park.

While the Dodgers look on in the visiting dugout. Robbed of opening the season at home as scheduled. Probably missing out on a Clayton Kershaw-Tim Lincecum matchup.

Of all the teams in all the towns in all the world, the Giants have to ask the Dodgers to walk into their joint March 31?

It was hard enough for Dodgers fans to humbly sit by and watch the Giants’ unexpected title -- guess it was unexpected, or MLB originally would have scheduled their season to start at home -- but now they’re supposed to bend over backward to accommodate the Giants’ party?

I don’t think so. Exactly what is in it for the Dodgers? Outside of an extra chartered flight and hotel stay in San Francisco? Hasn’t anyone heard the Dodgers are carefully watching their expenses these days?

According to Shea, the plan is for the teams to play the one game in San Francisco, then hop a flight to Los Angeles to play the four-game series at Dodger Stadium as scheduled. Which would essentially mean opening the season with an odd five-game series.

The March 31 game would replace the April 11 game against the Dodgers in Frisco. (I don’t really ever say Frisco, I just enjoy using it because I know it annoys everyone from Frisco.)

Shea said the move would have to be approved by the players’ union. Almost like the Dodgers have no say in it. And you just know how thrilled they must be about all this.

This qualifies as cruel and unusual punishment of a staggering organization. There’s only so much humble pie you can ask one team to stomach.

The Giants’ home opener is currently scheduled for April 8 against the St. Louis Cardinals. Sounds swell. Make it a party. Hope it’s a real happening. I’m sure the Cardinals will be very cooperative.

Otherwise, leave the schedule and the Dodgers alone.

Sincerely,

Steve Dilbeck

This is ridiculous. I'm sick of the t.v. stations and MLB doing this crap. I will certainly NOT watch the game at all. Waaah, poor ESPN and MLB for being unfortunate with the scheduling. L.A. fans should be livid if this happens. I am seriously considering dropping my yearly season ticket order if this happens. I don't want to be a part of a team that allows this crap. Also, there were two Raider games that CBS switched over in the last few minutes and seconds of the game. This is absurd. They're thumbing their noses at the fans. Keep it up and we'll see the attendance rates go down again, baseball!

...Actually, I think all of the Giants games with the Dodgers ought to be played in Southern California. Retrofit the Coliseum for a few. Play one in San Bernardino--nice little park.

San Francisco itself is a city full of bumpy roads, people with addled brains, lotsa, lotsa, lotsa wind... The fans are even windy. Braggadocio on a success string as thin as an optic fiber. One World Series victory in 53 seasons? Wow! Wow! Wow!

The Florida Marlins have won 2 World Series in 18 seasons of play. True, the Giants are not as woebegone as, say, the Chicago Cubs... But hey... I hope the San Francisco Giants and their fan base have a great time celebrating their accidental World Championship... Even Pompeii had a few good years...

Now wait a minute, fellow Dodger fans. How much are the Giants willing to pay the Dodgers for the privilege of rubbing the championship in our face? Can we be bought?

Normally, I would say to the Giants "Bite Me!!", but these are different times. What's it worth? $5 mil?

Let them have their 15 minutes? It will be another 50 years before they win again.

Hahaha it doesnt matter what you clowns from the south want. Your pathetic bums finished in 4th while we won the world championship. Cant wait for the country to see the world champs unveil the world champion bannner especially against the dodgers hahahaha. The Giants brought the throphy home where it belongs!

2010 World Champions SF Giants!

Real class SFGAYMAN!

This is an outrage! If the Dodgers get no say in this, then I think Frank and Jaime should take MLB and ESPN to court! They already have a slew of lawyers at their disposal! Let's tie this up in the courts for a couple of years and hopefully the McCourts will exhaust their finances then have to sell the Dodgers!

I hope the Dodgers show some class. Go up there and beat the Giants.

Let's just go in there and kick their butts, then come back to LA and do it again, and again, and again, and again. The Giants will fade -- it's a namby-pamby team representing a latte town.

LETS GO GIANTS!!!

I just think Bochy doesn't want to wait until the 11th to see if Donnie Baseball will visit the mound twice again.

LMAO!! I love bitter Dodger fans, but seeing a come from a journalist (someone who is supposed to be professional)just proves what a dump hole your pathetic city is. Don't be so jealous! It will good for the Dodger players and fans in attendance to see the WS trophy, becasue that's as close as your going to get to it for many years. So, come on now, let's hear all the graons about you have so many more champions, and how our title was all luck. When was teh last time the LADies won the WS. 1988? 23 years and counting

Hey Cousin Steve,
It's good to finally be the king!
Leave us alone and let us feel the dominance that you Dodger fans have enjoyed since 1958. ;)
Sincerely,
Cousin Art
Oh BTW, Merry Christmas to all of the family!

The SF Giants won more playoff games in 2010 than the LA Dodgers have won in the last 23 seasons combined.

I love the Jay Gibbons signing and what happened to BannyWood? (;
Enjoy the season Dodger fan.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Date was changed, sucks for the WEAK DODGERS &their fans. Season opens Mar. 31 in SF. Oh, how I LOVE it!

If you want to feel better about it, just think about it this way, if it wasn't for the Giants being kind enough to agree to move to San Francisco back in '54, the Dodgers wouldn't have been allowed to move to Los Angeles. Your team is now making their contribution back. No where near as big, but a nice compromise for you to make.

Thank you ESPN ;)

Bow down to the Champions, LA! And get used to eating a lot more humble pie as we celebrate our title AT YOUR PARK or wherever else we please while your franchise slides further into the realm of obsolete mediocrity....

It doesn't matter where/who the part is staged for, your rivals are the CHAMPS!

Wow!... aren't we just a little bit bitter? That's ok, I used to live in SoCal so I know how you Angelenos can get 'snippy' when you get upset (or when it rains!).
YOU PEOPLE NEED TO LEARN HOW TO READ!!!!
THE FACT IS, IT WASN'T THE GIANTS WHO MADE THIS REQUEST.
IT WAS ESPN AND MLB!!! GET A GRIP!!!
Whereas personally, I too wouldn't be all that crazy about the idea if the tables were turned. Yet, I somehow can't help feel that the Giants would probably accomodate the Dodgers for a request like this. That's what classy organizations do. But, hey that's just my opinion.
Incidentally, I happen to love the nickname Frisco. It reminds me of 1940-50's detective novels and film noir flicks ala Humphrey Bogart. It sure beats the hell out of 'San Fran'.....
Go Giants!

dodgers are a bunch of whining (whimps). you guys threw all your success in the G's faces for years and years. suck it up, become a better team, get rid of sissies like matt kemp, get real owners, a real stadium and try to win one of your own. and LA 5 SF 1 in titles don't mean jack. it's what have you done for me lately. garvey and co are in rocking chairs.

G's have a beautiful park, great young pitching, championship heart...everything the dodgers are lacking. i look forward to several more championships from the G's in the coming year. the dodgers will never be able to deal with the G's pitching staff. happy you spend all that money on manny ramirez? ha ha ha

sounds like sour grapes to me...

Why don't you stop whining and get ready to watch the Giants smear the plate with blue?

DEAL WITH IT.
