It's official: The Dodgers send Manny Ramirez to the White Sox

Manny Ramirez has officially become a member of the Chicago White Sox, to whom he was assigned on a straight waiver claim on Monday.

Ramirez is on his way to join the White Sox in Cleveland, but isn’t expected to be there in time to play on Monday night, according to a baseball source. He is expected to be in the White Sox lineup on Tuesday.

The White Sox didn’t send any players to the Dodgers, but are taking on the $3.8 million that Ramirez is due to earn over the remainder of the season.

To replace Ramirez, the Dodgers recalled reliever Ramon Troncoso from triple-A Albuquerque.

To not get any prospects is just stupid. The Dodgers farm system is depleted and this could have helped. I hope they are not dumping salary. Judge should order team sold.

note to latimes editors: the end of the manny does chavez ravine saga is a bigger story than the beginning of the mccourt divorce trial. this is real, it happened. nothing happened in court today.

So where is Manny right now?
Still in L.A. cleaning out his locker and tidying up his affairs here?
Why don't we have a live web cam on him? Does he have a ticket?

Good riddance!

Salary dump plain and simple Steve-O. Only way they would've gotten players back is if Frank ate most of, if not all of the remainder of his contract.

Fortunately, Manny's last four days here were handled with all the class and dignity we've come to expect from Frank, Ned and Joe.

It's official: McCrap is a narcasistic creep, Torre is a natural born corporate hack liar, and Ned has No Head (and no integrity). What a disgrace: McCrap orders Torre not to play Manny & therefore not put his best line-up on the field when they get within 4 1/2 of the wild card so they can lose & drop out of the race to justify dealing Manny. McCrap gets no prospects but saves $4.5 mill for his divorce attorneys & helps de-value the Dodgers for his hearings. This thing stinks to high heaven.

As a White Sox fan, I happy to get Manny.... he can only help our slim playoff chances and even if we don't get in, it doesn't look like we would be playoff bound without him either.

As long as he was injured the Dodgers insurance picked up two thirds of his salary. They didn't actually pay that much. Should have got prospects and packaged a deal. Dunn is still out there. Could have made a move.

Hold it!!!!!! Didn't I just read that the judge in the McCourts case is from Frisco. He should be replaced right now. Oh yeah Giants fans. I said Frisco. Frisco, Frisco, Frisco..........

I started loving baseball again with Manny on the scene. He was exciting, skilled, and had personality....and I will really miss him. But the question now is, who are the LATimes sports writers going to viciously attack now that Manny has been successfully removed from the Dodgers team.

Oops I must have misremembered what I read.

Why are people blaming Ned. He has done an excellent job with what he has had to work with. He and Joe are just working with what they have. Dont lump them in here. Do you remember our last Gm. I'm hoping ned stays after this is over.

As a Dodger fan that used to believe that the organization was interested in winning, I consider myself on waivers like Manny and I will be a fan of the White Sox. Manny was the only feared hitter in the Dodgers lineup and one of the greatist of all time. Time to give Joe " I would rather lose with guys I like than win with guys I hate" Torre the boot along with No head Ned. Thanks for nothing greedy parking lot guy and your shriveled prune of a soon to be ex wife.

McCourt has not let the fans down.

Neddie has not let the fans down.

Even Torre, whose decisions have been wacko, has not let the fans down.

The overpaid, spoiled players on the field, that have choked, have let the fans down.

Check out San Diego's payroll. Is it next to the last in the majors? Now tell me how McCourt, who has spent far more, especially on prima donnas, has hurt this team, financially?

Merchandising Money this week will have paid, what, 70% or more of Zack Lee's signing bonus?

Dodger fans...open your eyes! The Dodgers are a shell of themselves as long as Frank and/or Jamie McCourt own them. Do you think they were thinking of Dodger Fans while dumping Manny's salary? If that were the case, don't you think we would have received SOMETHING for Manny???

The McCourts should be put on Waivers, they have ruined a good team. Is this the baseball version of the Georgia syndrome all over again?

Really, what team in their right mind would want him as a player?

Dumping Manny to save a buck. This is a stab int he back of every single Dodger fan. Dodger fan first...Manny fan second. If you are going to let him go....cool.....just get me some talent in exchange. No talent in exchange? Lets all take a torch and pitchfork fund, McCourt needs to go. Fact of the matter is that when Manny plays, the Dodgers win. Manny is gone...along with our realistic chances of doing damage to anyone in the post season.

Steve Ned would just trade those prospects for crap anyhow, like he has the past 5 seasons.

I spoke with Manny this afternoon in Pasadena. He said that he was disappointed to leave LA before the end of the season and enjoyed his time here in LA.

Fortunately, one of two of LA's nightmares is over. Now if we can just ship the McCourts back to Boston.

That last at bat Ramirez had was a slap in the face of every Dodgers fan, not to mention his fellow Dodgers. What a selfish player. He is gone and already forgotten. Let the White Sox have this malcontent. Ramirez will go down the same ignominious path as Barry Bonds.

Congrats to Frank for gaining $3.8 million to pay his lawyer fees. Way to act in the best interests of the team.

This move is a simple salary dump reaction to what appears to be a lengthy and ugly divorce proceeding. How it was handled was poor, classless and typical McFail. I will rejoice when the judge forces this pair of clowns to sell the team, if they dont part with the Dodgers...........I pray to god that this doesn't happen, but it will be a sad and dark day for me. It hurts me to see the team get taken advantaged and turned into a personal piggy bank by a unworthy set of owners. The Dodgers and their loyal fans deserve and need a foundation similar to what the O'Malley's gave us fans.

"That last at bat Ramirez had was a slap in the face of every Dodgers fan"

You're the best hitter on the team and you are being benched and given away for the sake of saving a buck. You have given it your all each day you were in the lineup. This could be your last at bat. The ball was literally five+ inches off of the plate (the replay clearly sows the ball had more on the opposing batters box line than on the plate) Would you be calm? On your last opportunity to give something back to the people who have embraced you and some idiot tough guy ump (he got in Manny's face, NOT the other way around) makes a HORRID call, kicks you out for dissatisfaction, and YOU become the villain. Yeah....that makes alot of sense there Doug.

dear manny,‎
You sell out stadiums, dreadlock wig stands, and sporting goods stores. You RUN Boston... Then you come to LA... our hero. When we were down you gave us life, enough to shine in October, not once, but twice... We are all on your back, the back of an absolute RBI machine... like a father, you make us feel safe, our crutch, "Mr. Clutch". I could see it in your eyes, ("MANNY! MANNY! MANNY!") so loud you cant hear yourself think, you look into the camera behind the batters box as if to say, "Watch this".. and we watched. Most of the time without words... you create silence. You also look really sexy in Dodger blue. I look at my Manny Ramirez bobblehead on my nightstand every night before bed, and when i close my eyes i am taken to a happy place. Its a cool evening in Los Angeles, the bases are juiced, a fresh new victim out of the pen...Scully on the call, "will it be manny?" You could hear the roar miles and miles away... you came out to the on deck circle like a great king to his adress his people. "Theres your answer, and this crowd goes bananas!..." Every dodgers fan in the world just got goosebumps, simultaneously. We all stop and stare, nothing else matters, everything is put aside for this moment, we are in your hands now. "2-2, 6th inning, bases loaded, one out.." 1st pitch, really? One swing, thats naughty! "and a drive to left field, down the line, this ball is GONE!" . Just Manny being Manny...a pinch hit, dreadlock powered grand salami in to Mannywood, on your bobblehead night. I love you. thank you for giving my grandchildren stories.- without you there was not. -Think Blue

Manny and his bloated contract cost the Dodgers opportunities to improve because they were not able to take runs at the recently (this year) available free agents such as Roy Halladay and Roy Oswalt, et al. Good riddance to an obvious narcissist. He may have been "good in the clubhouse", but he and his act was just too damn costly and inconsistent.

"Manny, don't let the door hit you in the butt as you leave !!!"

The White Sox won't win with Manny. He's a fat old man who can't hit the inside pitch anymore.

THANK YOU MANNY< THANK YOU FOR THE FUN YOU BROUGHT BACK TO AN OTHER WISE BORRING TEAM YOU GAVE US HOPE YOU MADE IT CLOSE CAN'T ASK FOR MORE THAT THAT I THINK YOU MADE THESE YOUNG HITTERS WAKE UP YOU MADE EVERYONE AROUND YOU LOVE THE GAME THANKS FOR THE PLAYOFF THRILLS IN CHICAGO AND EVEN THO THE TEAM LOST IN PHILLY IT WAS STILL GOOD THANKS FOR MANNYWOOD THANKS FOR PUTTING JEFF KENT IN HIS PLACE IF ANYONE WAS A CANCER IT WAS HIM THANKS FOR THAT EXCITING EVENING ON YOUR BOBBLE HEAD NIGHT WITH THE GRAND SLAM PRICELESS TO ALL THE HATERS WELL THEY CAN KISS YOUR WELL YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
