Reserve infielder Jamey Carroll had three hits, including a two-run single, and newly acquired Jay Gibbons singled in another run to lead the Dodgers past the Washington Nationals, 8-3, at Dodger Stadium on Sunday.Another bench player, outfielder Reed Johnson, also drove in two runs for the Dodgers with a pinch-hit single.

The win gave the Dodgers their second consecutive victory over Washington as the Dodgers closed a homestand and prepared to open a seven-game trip in Philadelphia on Tuesday against the Phillies.

Carroll was playing shortstop for injured Rafael Furcal, and Gibbons -- who had not made a big league plate appearance since 2007 -- was called up from triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday morning to replace struggling veteran Garret Anderson.

Dodgers starter Ted Lilly, recently acquired in a trade from the Chicago Cubs, gave up three runs and five hits in six innings.

The Dodgers never surrendered the lead after a four-run first inning against Washington right-hander Jason Marquis, who made his first start since April 18 after having surgery to remove bone chips from his pitching elbow.

After Scott Podsednik led off the game with a walk and stole second base, Ryan Theriot laid down a sacrifice bunt that Marquis bobbled, leaving both runners safe. As Theriot stole second base, the throw from Nationals catcher Wil Nieves skittered into center field and Podsednik scored.

Andre Ethier then walked and Loney singled to drive in Theriot. Two outs later, with Ethier and Ronnie Belliard on base, Carroll singled and drove in both.

Washington jumped back into the game in the second inning when Michael Morse and Justin Maxwell slammed back-to-back homers to left field off Lilly, cutting the Dodgers’ lead to 4-2.

The Dodgers added one run in the fourth inning when Carroll doubled and then scored on A.J. Ellis’ double. Washington matched the run in the fifth inning as Nieves doubled, reached third on Marquis’ sacrifice bunt and scored on Alberto Gonzalez’s sacrifice fly to center field.

In the sixth inning, Belliard and Carroll singled off Nationals reliever Miguel Bautista and Gibbons hit his single to center field to score Belliard and give the Dodgers a 6-3 lead.

And Belliard and Carroll both scored in the eighth inning on Johnson’s single against Washington reliever Drew Storen.
