Veteran utility infielder Juan Castro has signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers, according to Castro’s agent, Oscar Suarez.

Castro, 38, hit .277 in 57 games with the Dodgers last season. He signed with the Philadelphia Phillies in the offseason -- largely because the Phillies offered him a guaranteed contract and the Dodgers wouldn’t -- but batted only .198 in 54 games. Castro was released by the Phillies on July 17.
Castro is working out at the Dodgers’ spring training complex in Arizona and is expected to join triple-A Albuquerque for the start of its next homestand, which is on Aug. 4.
