Wills is credited by many with bringing the stolen base back to baseball. In his first full season as Dodgers shortstop, Wills led the league with 50 stolen bases, being the first National League player to steal 50 since Max Carey stole 51 in 1923.

In 1962, Wills broke Ty Cobb’s 47-year-old record by stealing 104 bases for the Dodgers and was named NL most valuable player.

Wills was a five-time All-Star and two-time gold glove winner with the Dodgers. On the all-time L.A. Dodgers list, he is fifth in games played (1,593), fourth in hits (1,732), second in runs (876), third in triples (56), ninth in walks (456) and first in stolen bases (490).
