The Dodgers plan to start Carlos Monasterios on Friday at Colorado, turning to the rookie after two consecutive undistinguished starts from veteran Ramon Ortiz.

Monasterios, the Rule 5 pick, made his one and only major league start on May 1, giving up one run in four innings of a 5-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ortiz had filled the fluid No. 5 spot in each of the past two turns in the rotation, giving up five runs in 3-1/3 innings in one start and three runs in four innings in the other.
