The Dodgers’ ongoing search for a complete pitching staff continued Friday when they called up left-hander Scott Elbert (pictured above) from triple-A Albuquerque.

Elbert was in Denver on Friday and available for tonight’s game against the Colorado Rockies to back up Carlos Monasterios in the youngster’s second career start.

Elbert was not exactly lighting it up for Albuquerque (1-1, 5.40 ERA), but had allowed only two earned runs in 11 1/3 innings in his last two starts.

Friday’s game could prove something of a tryout for Monasterios and Elbert to decide the open fifth spot in the rotation.

Elbert appeared in 19 games as a reliever last season for the Dodgers, going 2-0 with a 5.03 ERA.

‘I’m prepared to do whatever they ask me to do,’’ Elbert said. ‘I just want to be up here.’

With George Sherrill on the disabled list, Elbert for now gives the Dodgers a second left-hander in the bullpen to go along with Hong-Chih Kuo.

The Dodgers had yet to announce a corresponding move to make room for Elbert on their 25-man roster.
