Brad Ausmus has been placed on the disabled list for the first time in his 17-year career, the Dodgers announced today. He has a pinched nerve in his back.

Ausmus, 41, played on Thursday to move into a tie with former Dodger Al Lopez for seventh place on the all-time games caught list at 1,918 games.

Ausmus will be replaced by A.J. Ellis, who was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque.

The move is retroactive to Friday.
