Jamie McCourt gets $1.4 million, for now

Jamie McCourt can get at least $1.4 million to cover her expenses until next month's hearing on spousal support, according to an agreement filed last week in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Fabforum The $1.4 million comes from the liquidation of an investment account in the names of Frank and Jamie McCourt. The agreement also provides Jamie McCourt with access to additional funds -- in an unspecified amount -- from the couple's joint investments.

When Frank and Jamie McCourt filed for divorce in October, she asked for $320,967 per month if she were reinstated as the Dodgers' chief executive officer and $487,634 per month if she were not. The court denied her request for immediate reinstatement.

The court has scheduled a hearing on spousal support March 29-30. Jamie McCourt agreed not to make another bid for reinstatement at that time but reserved the right to do so in the future, according to the filing.

The spousal support ruling that follows the March hearing is likely to be temporary. The McCourts have agreed to settle the issue of who owns the Dodgers first -- a trial is set to start May 24 -- and resolve the other issues in their divorce at a later date. That means a permanent resolution of the spousal support issue could be months away.

Frank McCourt claims he is the sole owner of the Dodgers, citing a marital property agreement signed by each of the McCourts. Jamie McCourt claims she is a co-owner and has asked the court to rule that the agreement is invalid.

McCourt's please keep your drama to yourselves. I know it's too much to ask, but please sell the team fast.

If the McCourts couldn't keep this thing on the down-low until the end of the team's post season engagement, expect this noise to be louder than ever. Shameful that it takes away from the far more interesting spring training buildup...

go back to boston

Go Giants!!!

I hope the judge forces them to sell the team to more worthy owners. GO BACK TO BOSTON!

and Jamie owns this team

I don't get why HE has to pay HER!! SHE is a Graduate of Georgetown and a former lawyer, and you're telling me SHE is entitled to support??? Not to mention SHE cheated!! Something is TERRIBLY wrong with this picture.

So let me get this straight: She cheats on him with her bodyguard and get 1.4 mill and possibly more? She signed a marital property agreement because she didn't want to risk her stuff with the Dodgers and now she wants the money. Pathetic. The divorce laws need to change!!!

Not a McCourt fan but I feel bad for Frank.
I do wish they sell the team to a local billionaire. Mr Roski perhaps? Just buy the Dodgers and forget about the football team!

The Dodgers need pitching and a power hitter!
Hurry!

The Dodgers were purchased with Frank's parking lot. Hey Jamie, GET A JOB.

How much will this decision raise Dodger Stadium parking fees?

Please please please sell the team! And fast.

Thanks to everyone for participating. We certainly welcome your thoughts on the Dodgers--on the team, on the ownership, on the divorce proceedings.

But we do not welcome personal attacks, or any other comments that do not further the discussion. We've deleted several comments to this post, which we would prefer not to do. We'd love to have you join the conversation, but let's chat with respect for each other and for whoever and whatever we might be discussing.

Thanks again for your participation.

Jesus help our LA DODGERS.

The McCourt Drama will be a the expense $$$ of the LA Dodger Fans who are loyal to the LA Dodgers BLUE TEAM.

half of you guys already know that California is a community property state
and the other half will be told by a judge soon
TDS

There is no question about whether California is a community property state. It is. The question is whether an agreement signed by Frank and Jamie McCourt -- and designed to override the community property laws -- will be upheld in court. The agreement clearly states that the Dodgers belong to Frank alone, but Jamie argues that was not the intent when the couple negotiated the agreement.

when the McCourts were introduced to the media after their purchase of the Dodgers, Frank made it clear then that he had purchased the team at the behest of and for his wife, Jamie.

That videotape still exist and will be introduced as evidence shortly.
TDS

Jamie might be able to argue that. Frank could then argue that the introduction took place in January 2004 and the agreement was signed in March 2004.

It's too bad that the Dodgers as a team are affected by this divorce but things happen and quite frankly folks at least McCourt did do enough to get the Dodgers back to a level where they make the playoffs. That's more then we received from Rupert Murdoch as the owner or his cronies.

Hopefully this divorce will not have a long term effect on the ability of the franchise to field winning teams in the future.
