Twitter #Weekendeats highlights: Who needs a brownie?

Brownies

There really is no such thing as a bad time for a brownie. Bad breakup? Eat an entire pan. Need a snack? Indulge in a single square. Housewarming? Bake a batch. The excuses for eating brownies are endless and apparently our #weekendeats family couldn't agree more or resist over the weekend. We had a varied mix of food and cocktails this morning during our #weekendeats chat on Twitter but the shared pictures of brownies left a lasting impression and a yearning for some chocolate. Here are the highlights:

Pictured above are a plate of decadent chocolate brownies from the blog Deliciously Directionless, who wrote "a plate-full of bliss, polished off in a matter of minutes." Dave Volpe of the blog The Starving Artist shared a recipe and picture of a batch of outrageous brownies he made with his new oven. For those who want to indulge but keep it healthy, Yuri, also known as @chefpandita on Twitter shared a picture of "guilt free" brownies that are raw and vegan.

Other highlights included a fun twist on grape leaves made with Swiss chard leaves from Aliya Leekong, a cake made entirely of sprinkle sugar cookies from Buttercream Blondie and a recipe for homemade macaroni and cheese with smoked cheddar cheese and a kick of cayenne pepper.

After the chat, we ask people to upload pictures of their #weekendeats to our What did you eat this weekend? photo gallery. We'll feature some of the photos here on Daily Dish, so be sure to check back for more #weekendeats and #foodporn throughout the week.

Hope to see everyone next Monday morning on Twitter! It's sure to be a drool-worthy good time.

Twitter #Weekendeats highlights: Here come the unique eats

Deepfriedoreos

Some Mondays, during our #weekendeats chat, a clear theme emerges. Maybe people felt like pasta over the weekend, or cravings for chocolate were insatiable, but this week, things got interesting. There wasn't so much a theme as there was an appreciation for unique eats. Here are the highlights:

First, let's start with a snack. How about some chocolate-dipped Ritz crackers with chopped pecans from JustJennRecipes.com? It's a different kind of combination for those who like to mix their salty and sweet flavors. If you're looking for more snacks, the Orange County fair seems like a good place to start. Comiendoenla.com shared a blog post with plenty of pictures of deep fried Oreos and a slew of other goodies for gluttons from the fair.

Maybe you're a fan of classic Jell-o in cherry or orange flavors. The blog YkBUrban shared a picture of an assortment of jellies but in some unconventional varieties. Check out this picture from YkBUrban of wolfberry and black sesame flavored jellies.

Kimchi (pickled, spicy cabbage) is a Korean staple, but Zanitea of the blog Tea Foodie decided to give the classic dish a twist this weekend with a tea-infused kimchi.

Rounding out the list of unique eats was the blog MyLastBite.com with a picture of golden brown sugar cane fried pigs feet and a video of a plate of live, squirming octopus from the blog Dishing Up Delights.

Twitter #Weekendeats highlights: It's a pasta party

PastasOne dish emerged a clear favorite during this morning's #weekendeats chat on Twitter: Pasta. It seemed people couldn't get enough of the al dente golden noodles and all their glory. Here are some of the highlights from today's carb-filled chat:

The pasta party started with a recipe for ground lamb with whole wheat pasta shells, broccoli rabe, fresh tomatoes and mozzarella from the blog Mango & Tomato. Hester from the blog The Chef Doc joined in with her recipe for Mediterranean orzo salad with plum tomatoes, fresh basil and feta cheese.

Lisa from the blog The Cooking Bride brought shrimp to the party with what she calls "Pantry Pasta Take Two" with a recipe for grilled shrimp with cherry tomatoes on linguine, and the blog Deliciously Directionless provided a recipe for spaghetti alla Puttanesca and a topic for a provacative conversation regarding where the name "Puttanesca" came from.

Michelle Jenkins of the blog Dailywaffle.com noticed the ongoing pasta trend and shared a photo of spaghetti cartoccio (served in parchment paper) with octopus, tomato and capers from Cafe Juanita in Kirkland WA.

All this noodle talk has me in the mood for pasta. For more recipes, check out these picks from the LA Times Test Kitchen:

Twitter #Weekendeats highlights: Summer produce galore

Summerproduce

This morning's #weekendeats chat on Twitter was especially colorful. Chat participants shared pictures and recipes for a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables used in salads, desserts, tarts and more. It seems everyone is in the mood to make and enjoy light, easy dishes for summer. Here is a look at some of the highlights:

Lemons were definitely a favorite this week. Daisy Thompson of the blog Daisy's world shared a recipe for lemon blueberry cheesecake cookies, which she notes are especially good with a glass of milk. Mary from the blog the Food Librarian shared a recipe for Meyer lemon muffins, there was a lemon cake from the blog Deliciously Directionless and Stephanie Arsenault from the blog Global Dish shared a berry lemon cobbler with cornmeal topping.

Tomatoes were also a weekend favorite with a mozzarella, tomato, olive oil and braised fennel sandwich from Sycamore Kitchen, shared by @RE_LvTravel, an heirloom and cherry tomato salad with peach-basil vinaigrette from Daisy Thompson of the blog Daisy's World and a pretty tomato mascapone tart from Samantha of the blog the Little Ferraro Kitchen.

The blog Wonderland Kitchen shared an entire feast of vegetables with ways to use your CSA vegetables, including recipes for creamed kohlrabi, cold tomato and cucumber salad, beets in a sweet thyme balsamic glaze, five-minute broccoli and backyard garden string beans.

Twitter #Weekendeats highlights: Going bananas for foie gras

Foie

July 1 marked a sad day for many California foodies. That's when the state ban on foie gras  went into effect, leaving restaurants and other vendors in California unable to sell the prized ingredient. In honor of foie gras, some of our #weekendeats chat participants indulged over the weekend and shared their photos and recipes with us on Twitter. Here are a couple of the foie gras highlights:

Marian Bacol-Uba, known as @marianthefoodie on Twitter, went on an all-out foie gras binge at Animal restaurant. Bacol-Uba shared photos of the foie gras terrine with jelly, foie gras biscuit and gravy, agnolotti with liquid foie gras and the Loco Moco with foie gras. That should hold her over for a while.

Darin Dines and Pinoy Panda @limer35 enjoyed foie gras dishes at Mélisse restaurant in Santa Monica, the site of some heated protests in May. Dines shared a photo, seen above, for truffled foie gras agnolotti, and Pinoy Panda shared a photo collage of the foie for all dinner with multiple courses.

PHOTOS: A look at foie gras in California restaurants

To say that Twitter's @Carolineoncrack had a decadent weekend would be a gross understatement. She feasted on orzo macaroni and foie beer cheese with house-made duck bacon and the seared foie gras sliders with quail egg, pickled shallots and house made spicy apple beer mustard from Beer Belly restaurant in Korea Town.

Ngoc Hoang, a.k.a. @probakist on Twitter, also enjoyed foie gras over the weekend and shared a picture and recipe for pasta with foie gras and mushrooms.

In addition to foie gras, Los Angeles said farewell Saturday to Madame Chocolat's Beverly Hills store. Jo Stougaard of MyLastBite.com shared a photo of some chocolate from the store.

After the chat, we ask people to upload pictures of their #weekendeats to our What did you eat this weekend? photo gallery. We'll feature some of the photos here on Daily Dish, so be sure to check back for more #weekendeats and #foodporn fun throughout the week.

Hope to see everyone next Monday morning on Twitter! It's sure to be a drool-worthy good time.

Twitter #Weekendeats highlights: Cool summer treats and more

  Weekendeats

Today's #weekendeats chat on Twitter left me wishing for a serious summer vacation, with pictures of ice cream sandwiches, popsicles and refreshing cocktails fit for lazy days by the pool. Here's a link to 30 beat the heat no-bake dessert recipes from the Los Angeles Times test kitchen and a look at some of today's chat highlights:

Twitter #Weekendeats highlights: Meatless Monday supreme

Meatlessmonday

We happen to celebrate a lot of bacon and other lust-worthy meats quite frequently here on Daily Dish, so today I thought it would be fun to give a well-deserved nod to some meatless dishes, for #MeatlessMonday, shared during our #weekendeats chat.

Angharad, author of the blog EatingforEngland.com, shared a recipe for black bean burgers; @YkBUrban tweeted a picture of the veggie waffle sandwich with goat cheese, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, arugula and balsamic reduction from Bruxie Waffles (pictured above); and Zach Brooks, also known as @midtownlunchla, shared a picture of the pescado zarandeado from Mariscos Chente.

If you're a kale fan, there was plenty to covet this week. From the blog teenytinykitchen.com, here's a recipe for a colorful rainbow kale spanakopita, and from the blog OutoftheBoxFood.com, a recipe for a simple kale and walnut pesto.

There were also some meat-friendly shares that definitely deserved a shout-out. This surf and turf burger at Anepalco cafe, shared by Twitter handle @TheHungryDogg, caused a definite double-take, and Mark Walker shared a picture of his attempt to savor foie gras with the foie gras terrine at Freddy Small's.

Let's end our roundup like we would any complete meal, on a sweet note with dessert! This week's standouts go to @luvbabyb, for sharing her cookies n cream monkey bread with toasted marshmallows Father's day breakfast, and Meghan of the blog Buttercreamblondie.com, for her bourbon pecan cookie dough banana bread.

After the chat, we ask people to upload pictures of their #weekendeats to our What did you eat this weekend? photo gallery. We'll feature some of the photos right here on Daily Dish, so be sure to check back for more #weekendeats  and #foodporn fun throughout the week.

Twitter #Weekendeats highlights: Tater tots, plenty of libations

Weekendeats

Mondays can be tough at the office. You've just returned from a weekend of relaxation and now it's time to get back to the grind, so we try to make things a little easier by revisiting the weekend fun with #weekendeats. Every Monday at 9:30 a.m., we host a #weekendeats chat on Twitter, where people tweet us pictures and recipes of what they ate over the weekend using the #weekendeats hashtag.

This week, there were plenty of sweet and savory eats, as well as cocktails to keep us salivating at our desks. On the sweet side, Hulk cut-out green tea and chocolate cookies from JustJennRecipes.com. The cookies feature a green tea Hulk cookie face and chocolate cookie hair. I can definitely see these being a hit at birthday parties. For something a little different, Aliya LeeKong shared a recipe for Seera, a buttery cake dessert made with semolina or cream of wheat.

On the savory side, Sipsandspoonfuls.com shared a recipe for creamy pea and mint spaghetti with snap peas, made for writer Sukaina's daughter, who was under the weather. Teenytinykitchen.com spiced things up with homemade tater tots and cheddar habanero sauce. You really can't go wrong with this one. For starters, they are tots, so that's an instant win; and two, who wouldn't want to dunk a whole lot of anything into some cheddar habanero sauce? Also adding a little heat to the mix was Foodwanderings.com with a recipe for corn and jalapeño roll mini sliders.

The libations were aplenty this week, with a deep purple blueberry mojito adult snow cone from Mymansbelly.com and margarita meltaway tequila cookies from Buttercreamblondie.com to accompany any tequila drink.

After the chat, we ask people to upload pictures of their #weekendeats to our What did you eat this weekend? photo gallery. We'll feature some of the photos right here on Daily Dish, so be sure to check back for more #weekendeats fun throughout the week.

Hope to see everyone next Monday morning on Twitter! It's sure to be a drool-worthy good time.

I know what you ate this weekend

Peaches Long weekend, long Weekend Eats.

We usually get to Weekend Eats bright and early Monday mornings. But, with the holiday, we split it into two days to give us plenty of time to chat about our Memorial Day weekend meals.

Scroll down below to take a look at some, but not all, of the highlights of our online conversation. In the mix: this photo of grilled yellow peaches served with a dollop of Greek yogurt and a drizzle of honey. It comes to us from Lisa Cohen of Encino, who writes the food blog Make Me Hungry. It just says,  "Welcome to the unofficial start of summer," doesn't it?

On the off chance some of you are not familiar with Weekend Eats, that's when we get together on Twitter each week to chat and swap photos of our -- you guessed it -- Weekend Eats. Please consider this your invitation to join us. Check out this monster photo gallery and you will see what I mean.
