Ripe for the taking: Pick-your-own blueberries

At Underwood Family Farms’ Somis location (just north of Camarillo), pick-your-own blueberries are now available seven days a week. Now through mid-July they’re about $3.99 a pound. Containers (1- and 2-pound) are provided, along with a self-guided blueberry trail during the week. Free tractor rides to the fields run on the weekends. Don’t forget hats and sunscreen. Raspberries on the vine are coming in too, with many more expected in the weeks to come. For more information, go to the Underwood Family Farms website.

Betty Hallock is deputy Food editor at the Los Angeles Times.
