You love the flavor and texture of steel cut oats, but don’t want to spend the extra half hour or so it takes to cook them in the morning. With a little planning, you can cook your steel cut oats in about the same time it takes to whip up a batch of rolled oatmeal. The trick? Soaking.

Soak the steel cut oats in water (4 parts water to 1 part oatmeal) in a covered container or saucepan the night before you plan to cook. The next morning, the oats will be softened and will cook in a fraction of the normal time.
