The pop-up series Test Kitchen’s latest installment takes place on Friday at Short Order with a preview (dubbed ‘Boot Camp’) of the coming restaurant MessHall.

MessHall, slated to open later this year, is replacing the Louise’s Trattoria in Los Feliz, partly spearheaded by Bill Chait, the restaurateur who’s also behind Short Order (as well as Rivera, Playa, Picca, Sotto, etc. ... ). The chef is Keith Silverton, and Julian Cox and Josh Goldman will be at the bar focusing on classic and new American cocktails.

On the menu are MessHall sneak-peek appetizers such as steak tartar taco and brandade gold potatoes. Entrees are: a center-cut pork chop with white cheddar grits; Red Baron trout schnitzel with potato gratin and fava beans; and Willard’s buttermilk crunch chicken. For dessert, a ‘Scout’ cookie with marshmallow and caramel. $49 per person. 7 p.m. to midnight (bar until 1 a.m.). For reservations email testkitchen@shortorderla.com.
