Happy National Pretzel Day! To celebrate, consider making your own. Believe it or not, they're really not that hard -- probably the most complicated part is learning how to twist them to get that knot just right. And nothing beats the flavor of a homemade pretzel fresh out of the oven. We ran a story last year on homemade pretzels, including a bunch of recipes and tips:

Making your own pretzels:

1. Divide the dough into 12 pieces.

2. Form each piece into a ball.

3. Pinch the seams together at the base of each ball.

4. Slowly roll each ball into a rope about 24 inches long.

5. Make a "U" out of each rope.

6. Twist the ends over.

7. Pinch to connect the ends to form the pretzel.

8. Dip the pretzels into the wash.

9. Place on a baking sheet and garnish as desired.

Pretzel10garyfriedman10. Bake until puffed and golden brown, about 10 minutes, rotating the baking sheet about halfway through the cooking time.
