Finding food on Time's '100 Most Influential' list

Magazines love the numbers game. If it's not 32 ways to six-pack abs, they're touting the 100 most influential people in the world. That's what Time has on its website right now. Perhaps surprisingly, given these food-crazy times, there are only two food-related people on the list -- René Redzepi and José Andrés, both international chefs of a distinctly modernist bent. Not a farmer, fisherman or even activist to be seen.

Time, of course, has its own cool little twist. The magazine tapped the peers of those listed to write brief tributes to the heroes. Ron Paul, for example, is heralded by Ralph Nader. Redzepi's description is written by Ferran Adrià, in whose kitchen he once worked: “Today he is at the apex of the culinary world.”

And Andrés is hailed by Anthony Bourdain, who recounts running into the Spanish chef in Haiti, waiting for a hurricane to blow through: “No one kitchen -- or 10 -- can contain him.”
