It’s amazing what one afternoon of food and wine can do -- especially once the sun comes out. Sunday’s L.A. Loves Alex’s Lemonade benefit, which looked at first like it might be a very wet affair because of all the rain, wound up raising more than $400,000 to fight childhood cancer.

The top item at the auction? A dinner with some of Los Angeles’ top women chefs, which went for $61,000. That’s a meal prepared by Giada de Laurentiis, Suzanne Goin, Nancy Silverton, Alice Waters and Sherry Yard with wines by Morgan Clendenen of Cold Heaven Cellars and Ann Colgin of Colgin Cellars.

An equivalent dinner cooked by men –- San Francisco’s Michael Tusk, Chicago’s Paul Kahan, New York’s Jonathan Waxman, as well as Angelenos Matt Molina (Mozza), Josiah Citrin (Melisse) and Michael Cimarusti (Providence) -- went for only $20,000. Of course, the event was organized by Goin, so home-field advantage and all that.

Celebs in attendance included Neil Patrick Harris, emcee Jimmy Kimmel, Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Timothy Olyphant, Connie Britton and Carla Gugino.
