18 crazy cool flavors from the L.A. Times Test Kitchen

July 1, 2011 |  1:12 pm

Parmesan Did you know that July is National Ice Cream Month? And that today is Creative Ice Cream Flavor Day? (Personally, I think "Creative Ice Cream Flavor Day" is a clunky name for a holiday, but no one asked me.)

Given such momentous milestones in culinary history, combined with our desire to deliver you a no-bake dessert recipe for each day of the summer, I combed the L.A. Times Test Kitchen's recipe archives for unusual ice cream flavors, such as beer ice cream and buckwheat ice cream.

But I didn't stop there. I rounded up cucumber-chile and blueberry-lavender ice pops. A palate-cleansing Parmesan(!) gelato, at left, a semifreddo, a yogurt ... you get the idea.

So let's get to it, shall we? 18 crazy cool flavors from the L.A. Times Test Kitchen.

As always, if you try any of the recipes from the L.A. Times Test Kitchen, we want to see the finished dish so we can showcase it on the blog and in print. You can upload your photos here.
