Chef Thomas Keller kicks off new Food series, joins us at the L.A. Times Book Festival

Let’s start the countdown to the L.A. Times Festival of Books -- and the launch of new Food section series, Master Class.
If you haven’t already made plans to visit the Festival of Books on April 30 and May 1 at USC, you’d best get to it.
Why? Thomas Keller’s going to be there, that’s why.
Arguably the best American chef -- one of the only chefs in the world to have two Michelin three-star restaurants -- he’s scheduled to be at the Cooking Stage in conversation with Times Food editor Russ Parsons on May 1 at 12:30 p.m.
And while that should be enough of a draw to get most food lovers to the festival, there’s a lot more.
The stage will be running full time Saturday and Sunday with cooking demonstrations. Among those who will be showing off their stuff: TV cooking legend Graham Kerr, ‘Surreal Gourmet’ Bob Blumer, ‘Ace of Cakes’ Duff Goldman, ‘Top Chef’ contender Fabio Viviani, BabyCakes’ Erin McKenna, vegan cooks Kathy Freston and Tal Ronnen, and authors Laurie David and Kristin Uhrenholdt.
And Times Test Kitchen manager Noelle Carter will be holding forth in the L.A. Times Pavilion, talking about her favorite cookbooks and answering your kitchen questions.
As long as we’re talking about Keller and great chefs: Starting April 28, we’ll begin a new monthly column called Master Class, in which great cooks share the secrets they’ve learned in their years in the kitchen. Scheduled to lead off will be Keller himself, followed by Nancy Silverton, Tom Colicchio and Sang Yoon.
