3 Food Events You Should Know About: Emeril’s ‘The Originals,’ ‘Taste of the Nation,’ L.A. Wine Fest 2011

On TV: Chef Emeril Lagasse will hit the road to pay tribute to ‘The Originals’ –- food establishments that have helped shape the country’s culinary landscape -– in his new prime-time Cooking Channel series. He’ll be uncovering the birthplace of famous dishes like Boston cream pie in New England or showing us Dr. Martin Luther King’s preferred Atlanta dining spot. Then, of course, there are those places close to home: He’ll be revealing Charlie Chaplin’s favorite 1920s Hollywood hangout and exploring the origin of the French dip sandwich in Los Angeles. Premieres May 5, 7:30 p.m.

Good cause: On May 22, Montage Laguna Beach is hosting a culinary benefit, ‘Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation,’ to help eliminate childhood hunger. Craig Strong, chef at the Montage’s Studio restaurant, will be joined by seven others, including Alan Wong of Alan Wong’s in Honolulu and Scott Conant of Scarpetta in Beverly Hills and New York, in preparing a tasting. Guests also can enjoy wine, cocktails, live music and a view of the Pacific Ocean. Tickets start at $150 per person, or $175 at the door. Days to drink: L.A. Wine Fest, the city’s biggest wine-tasting event, is back for its sixth year on June 11 and 12. Tickets are available now for $69 for a single day and $125 for couples.
