What's cooking in the L.A. Times Test Kitchen

Poptartdemo
Today we're shooting pop tarts. And yes, they are pretty amazing -- and totally fun to make! We tested the recipe Tuesday with only minor changes, and had time during our scheduled photo shoot today to snap some photos. Above, intern Jonathan Wing demonstrates the step-by-step assembly for photographer Anne Cusack as intern Nina Ouni checks recipe notes.

I don't have a run date yet, but I'll keep you posted.

RECIPE UPDATE: Good news regarding Tuesday's Kitchen post: That apple cake I was raving about  -- I said it was one of my all-time favorites -- is scheduled to run next week as our Culinary SOS. Barring breaking news or a change in scheduling, the recipe should be available in print and online a week from Thursday, on Feb. 10.

There's a place in DC (where I live) that makes excellent homemade pop tarts called "Ted's Bulletin." Their brown sugar/cinnamon pastries are the absolute best. Looking forward to hearing how yours turn out.

I know those Pop Tarts! Can't wait... or maybe it was the other half who can't wait. Either way, looking forward.
