Combo Plate: Nutella Crack Pie, food safety opt-out, White on Rice rides into the Sunset and more

February 7, 2011 |  8:25 pm

Nutella Crack Pie-- Power couple: You know them best as White on Rice Couple, the blogging-photographing-gardening super duo of Todd Porter and Diane Cu. (You haven't lived until you have been invited to one of their parties. They manage to make you feel as comfortable as if you're wearing PJs in your own home while they stuff you full of the most extraordinary food.) Well, darn it, now those invitations are going to be even harder to come by. Everyone's going to want one after reading the feature about the couple in this month's Sunset magazine.

-- Keep your hands off our food: A legislator from Utah wants to opt out of the new federal food safety bill. Details at Food Safety News.

-- Blogspotting: You know we love Crack Pie around here. But Cathy Shambley of the blog ShowFood Chef kicked it up a notch by adding chocolate to the mix in honor of World Nutella Day: Crack Pie + Nutella = Nutella Crack PIe. We'll quote Cathy here: "See it, make it, devour it." If you insist, Cathy!

-- You may be paying more for your morning muffin in the coming months. On Monday, sugar commodity prices were rising for a second day as news of storm damage to farm fields in Australia and sluggish production in parts of India fueled concerns that global supplies would fall short of meeting demand. More in today's Business section.

-- Taking off the gloves: First Lady Michelle Obama isn't going away. She's been criticized (can you believe it?) for her efforts to combat childhood obesity. Now she's taking on the NRA. No, the other NRA -- the National Restaurant Assn. Time has the scoop.
