There’s a new monthly meeting of L.A. food trucks at Union Station: Truckit Fest

There’s a new food truck meet up in town: Truckit Fest will gather together dozens of L.A.’s food trucks at downtown Union Station starting March 6, and is slated to be held on the first Sunday of each month. But the real news? This event will feature table service.
That’s right. The trend has gone from restaurants to food trucks to food trucks that act like restaurants. For a $45 V.I.P. option at Truckit Fest, you can order off a menu and have food truck food brought to you.
‘The whole food truck phenomenon is now going to a whole new level,’ said organizer Phillip Dane. (He’s the guy behind the L.A. Flea Market at Dodger Stadium, which came to a halt after it was rained out consecutive weekends in November and December, and is scheduled to return in Spring 2011.)
Dane said he was blown away by the frenzy surrounding the food trucks at the Dodger Stadium event. So much so, that some trucks were overwhelmed by the crowds and ran out of food. ‘That wasn’t good. But that’s when I started thinking that I need to do a food festival.’
Truckit Fest will also serve up a side of music and artisan wares: The monthly event will also feature 200 local designers and artisans, plus live bands and deejays. Among those in attendance: The Munchie Machine, Border Grill, Barbie’s Q, Ileana Designs, Jenny and Jimbob, Deadly Accessories, and bands Far West, the Broken Numbers Band and Last Day Off. The event will take place both inside and outside historic Union Station -- a must-see, if you’ve never been there.
There will also be a rock-climbing wall.
In other words, you can eat, walk and work it off, and come back for more.
Food truck gatherings always bring out the crowds, and the long lines. Truckit Fest has some options (but they will cost you). A V.I.P. ticket provides entrance an hour before the crowds; complimentary valet parking; access to a private lounge located in the Fred Harvey Room; a $10 voucher for the food trucks; and menu service, so guests can order and receive their food from the lounge instead of standing in line. That will set you back $45.
Truckit Fest takes place from 11am-5pm Sunday, March 6 at Union Station at 800 N. Alameda St. General admission is $5, and kids younger than 12 are free. Guests who take the Metro and show their train ticket get $1 off admission. Tickets are available now online at www.truckitfest.com.
