Jo Marie e-mailed me recently looking for the recipe for Fudgy Wudgy Brownies from our Culinary SOS archive:

‘I have been looking for the Fudgy Wudgy Brownies recipe since I left California. This was in the paper -- late 70s/early 80s and I lost all my favorite recipes when I moved. I know it’s a long time ago but my children are still asking!! Perhaps you could make me a hero??’

We tracked this recipe all the way back to its printing on July 20, 1978. The recipe is from songwriter Carol Connors, who made them for a Bastille Day potluck at famed Hollywood restaurant Le Dome. We wrote that the Academy Award nominee ‘stood by her Fudgy Wudgy Brownies assuring all the tasters that they were great because she sang to them. And they were.’

If you’re not much of a singer, no worries -- the recipe doesn’t call for vocal talents. But if a gooey-soft texture is your idea of a perfect brownie, this is sure to be a hit.

Enjoy, Jo Marie!

The recipe follows the jump. And click here for more Culinary SOS recipes. If you have a favorite restaurant recipe you’d like to request, feel free to e-mail me at noelle.carter@latimes.com. I’ll do my best to track down the recipe.
