Santa Monica Market Meet Ups with Michael (and Mikey)

If you find yourself at the Santa Monica farmers markets on Wednesdays:

Chef Michael McCarty and executive chef Mikey Stern are hosting Michael's Market Meet-Ups beginning this week. You'll start out at 8:30 a.m. at Michael's in Santa Monica for coffee and housemade pastries, while McCarty and Stern introduce a seasonal ingredient of the week -- and show you how to use them at home. Guests will have a chance to try the final dishes, and then the two chefs will lead a guided tour of the farmers market two blocks away to learn more about produce of the season, meet some of the farmers, and learn tips and tricks for navigating the market.

This week's meet-up focuses on kabocha squash and the menu includes kabocha ravioli, above, served with lemon brown butter, pomegranate and hazelnuts and brown butter kabocha squash purée with wild mushrooms, grilled quail and thyme. Also included in the $60 price is a copy of McCarty’s latest book, "Welcome to Michael’s: Great Food, Great People, Great Party!" Call 310-451-0843 for reservations and details.
