Your morning cup of nostalgia: Stewed tomatoes, raspberry and gelatin salad

I didn’t know there was such a thing as a ‘classic’ stewed tomato and raspberry gelatin salad. But I do now.

And that’s what we were eating in August 1975, according to this recipe from the L.A. Times’ archives.

Back then, the Food section would publish readers’ best and most ‘unusual’ recipes. We must have been pretty flush: We’d pay people a whole $5. We would then put the recipe through its paces in the L.A. Times Test Kitchen before publication.

This recipe came to us from Margaret Early of Pasadena, who said, ‘My family urged me to submit this recipe for their favorite salad.’
