Every cook has his or her favorite farmers, and that’s especially true of Los Angeles star chefs Suzanne Goin and Mark Peel. So at the Los Angeles Times Celebration of Food and Wine Labor Day Weekend, they will do side-by-side cooking demonstrations, each spotlighting the products of their favorite farmers.
Among Goin’s favorites is Phil McGrath from McGrath Family Farms. The chef of Lucques, Tavern and AOC will prepare a dish made with some of the things he grows. What’ll it be? She’s dropped hints about a succotash salad made with his beans, and a slow-roasted salmon with a sauce of brown butter and tomatoes that he also grew.

Peel, chef at Campanile and Tar Pit, is still choosing his farmer and dish, but will let us know soon. Other highlights include many other chefs and cooks as well as a selection of food and wine tastings. And what would a Los Angeles event be these days without a full complement of food trucks?
The Los Angeles Times Celebration of Food and Wine will be held September 5 on the backlot at Paramount Studios.
