I had dinner with a friend upstairs at Osteria La Buca last night. The fire crackled behind us, traffic whizzed by on Melrose, and just beside us Justin Timberlake -- wearing big, black-framed glasses and jeans -- dined with Jessica Biel and another couple.

Sadly, we didn’t notice this last detail until after our meal. We were so fixated on discussing the minutiae of our food -- how tangy the sauce was on our plate of pappardelle, whether or not we should eat the marrow out of the bone in our moist osso buco, if our tiramisu was, in fact, fluffier than a cloud -- that we failed to take in the bigger picture: the fact that my baby daddy was sitting next to us.

As we stood up and walked down the stairs behind them, Biel held the door for my friend, who turned to me and mouthed the words, ‘It’s Mother Lover!’ For those of you unfamiliar with the term, ‘Mother Lover’ is in reference to a joke song Timberlake performed on ‘Saturday Night Live’ in which he and comedian Andy Samberg suggest that mother swapping would be an appropriate way to celebrate Mother’s Day.

‘Mother Lover’ is also why I like Timberlake so much; he’s got a sense of humor. And he seemed very down to earth at the restaurant, which is why it took us so long to notice him.

However, if he really is a Mother Lover, maybe the next time I catch a glimpse of him will be at Osteria Mamma. ‘Cause as the song goes: I’m a pasta lover, he’s a pasta lover, we should love each other’s pasta....
