Cooks take to the stage at The Times Festival of Books

Alice Waters and Alicia Silverstone: There will be a little something for everyone on the cooking stage at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books April 24 and 25. What’s billed as the largest literary event in the United States will feature well-known cooks from the Food Network and Bravo’s ‘Top Chef’ as well as local heroes, Hungry Girls and Cake Mix Doctors.

The cooking stage, which is free of charge, will be in operation from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. both days. The Saturday lineup features Lisa Lillien (aka Hungry Girl) at 11 a.m.; ‘Top Chef’ contestants C.J. Jacobson, Stefan Richter, Betty Fraser and Antonia Lofaso at 12:30 p.m.; Dave Martin at 2 p.m.; and Silverstone, the actress and vegetarian who is also the author of ‘The Kind Diet,’ in conversation with Times staff writer Mary MacVean at 3:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Alice Waters starts at 11 a.m., followed by Cake Mix Doctor Anne Byrn at 12:30 p.m., country music singer/cookbook writer Tricia Yearwood at 2 p.m. and Campanile and Tar Pit chef Mark Peel at 3:30 p.m.

The Festival of Books is an annual event sponsored by The Times and held on the UCLA campus.
