'How Mushrooms Can Save the Planet': It's the 26th Annual Wild Mushroom Fair!

Mushrooms We don't celebrate the mushroom enough. But the Los Angeles Mycological Society does its part to remedy that by hosting its annual Wild Mushroom Fair, to be held next week at the L.A. County Arboretum and Botanic Garden.

Events include: a cooking demonstration; mushroom growing demonstrations; wild mushroom displays; books, collectibles  and art; children’s activities; a film screening; and wild mushroom identification.

Plus, mycologist Paul Stamets will speak about "How Mushrooms Can Save the Planet" -- a discussion of how the biological properties of fungi help heal the environment.

The 26th Annual Wild Mushroom Fair takes place Sunday, Feb. 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the L.A. County Arboretum and Botanic Garden, 301 North Baldwin Avenue, Arcadia. Admission to the arboretum is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors (62 and older) and students with i.d., and $3 for children ages 5 to 12. (Children younger than 5 years old are admitted free, as are members.) All general events are free of charge; the lecture is $21 and advance reservations are required. Details and links about the event are available at the Slow Food L.A. website  and the LAMS website.

A mushroom fair. Who knew? I've never even heard of a mycologist until this post. Very interesting!
