Cookbooks on Kindle, Kelly Ripa, cupcake towers, 'Iron Chef's' prop produce and more
--Food for thought: Senior Chow editor Lessley Anderson on the future of cookbook publishing in the wake of Kindles and IPads. (Personally, I won't even walk my Kindle through the kitchen, for fear of spilling something on it.)
--You look like you could use a cupcake tower. Check out this video -- I'm not sure I could actually build a cupcake tower after watching it, though... (And you might want to reach for the mute button. That music is dreadful.)
--Kelly Ripa's hosting a cake-off. For every vote, Electrolux, will donate $1 to fight ovarian cancer. Send a virtual cake and that's another $1 donation. Caveat: Annoying registration required, but it's for a good cause. I voted for Snow Day. I wanted to vote for Here Comes the Sun but those sunflowers look jacked up. Or wilted.
--We're tardy to the party on this one, but it still bears mentioning: Remember all that hoopla about Food Network's 'Iron Chef' White House showdown? The secret ingredients was said to be of "national importance" -- produce plucked from First Lady Michelle Obama's garden. Except that it wasn't. Check out this Chicago Tribune story about the prop produce.
--VIDEO: Why do we always think of Valentine's Day dinner. Chef Eric Ripert suggests breakfast in bed. I'll raise a mimosa to that.
--And to end on a less graceful note: Philippe's famed downtown eatery is shut because of a roach infestation.
