This video was posted on YouTube over a year ago, and has racked up more than six million hits, but I just tripped over it so I thought I would share. I’m pretty sure you will be mesmerized by A) the fact that this cheeky actress is Dawn Wells, a.k.a. Mary Ann of ‘Gilligan’s Island’ fame and B) the way she de-jackets that potato.

Excuse me, make that an Idaho potato.

I’m not sure that this is the fastest, easiest way to peel an Idaho potato, or any potato for that matter. By my count, this method calls for a knife, a pot of boiling water, a lid, tongs and a bowl full of ice and water, versus just a potato peeler. No matter. I plan to try it out the next time I make potato salad.

And it turns out there really is a Gilligan’s Island cookbook -- written by Wells, who apparently likes to cook.
