Gobi Mongolian BBQ House, which has been soft-opened since July 14 and in the works since at least December, officially opens tomorrow in Silver Lake. Owned and run by Pazzo Gelato owner Michael Buch and his girlfriend, Christina Rivera, it joins a stretch of Sunset Boulevard that’s already well stocked with Asian cuisine: Rambutan Thai and Pho Cafe.

Gobi follows standard Mongolian barbecue protocol (i.e., cram as much meat, veg and noodles as you can into a bowl) while offering a few twists: market-fresh vegetables like snow peas, bok choy and summer squash; specialty sauces like Asian pesto, lemon basil, smoky oyster and lemongrass; and quality meats like natural lamb, pork and chicken breast, as well as choice rib eye. The lunch bowl (about 28 ounces) costs $9.95 and the dinner bowl (a whopping 40 ounces), $13.95.

Drinks include beer (Rivera recommends the Siamese Twin Ale from Santa Cruz brewery Uncommon Brewers), wine and soju cocktails, including a pomegranate martini.

Gobi Mongolian BBQ House: 2827 W. Sunset Blvd., L.A. Tues. - Sun. 11 a.m. - 11 p.m.

[UPDATE: An earlier version of this post mentioned Manila Sunset as one of the restaurants located on Sunset Blvd. near Silver Lake Blvd. In fact, Manila Sunset has moved to 1016 N. Vermont Ave. near Santa Monica Blvd.]
