AMC Liquidators sells R. Allen Stanford’s furniture to Boca Raton restaurateur

AMC Liquidators, the company that currently has the Web-o-sphere buzzing, reportedly has sold some of the furniture owned by Texas billionaire R. Allen Stanford, who’s been accused in an $8-billion investment scam, to a Boca Raton, Fla., restaurateur named Sal Lazzara. According to an Associated Press story, Lazzara bought a maroon leather chair, a cherry wood desk and a credenza for his office.

Lazzara owns or once owned an Italian eatery called Lilly’s in Boca Raton, which Florida Sun-Sentinel restaurant critic John Tanasychuk reviewed favorably in 2003, noting that it was a ‘delightful neighborhood restaurant where everyone seemed to know everyone.’

I thought it would be fun to track Lazzara down and find out if all of the Internet buzz is causing his phone to ring off the hook and if the furniture he purchased is resting comfortably in his office at the restaurant, but I can’t find much about Lilly’s online, and the phone number listed just rings and rings. When I called Tanasychuk, he could not confirm that Lilly’s was still open, so my hunt for information is officially on.

Anybody out there know Sal Lazzaro or eaten at Lilly’s recently? It’s nice to think that fabulous furniture swept Robin Hood-like away is sitting in or in service of a quaint Italian restaurant named after somebody’s ravioli-making aunt.
