Hatfield's Part II: Mark Gold envisions EVA

May 19, 2009 | 11:36 am

MarkGold1 So now that Quinn and Karen Hatfield are taking their show to Melrose Avenue, who's moving into the Hatfield's space on Beverly Boulevard? Try chef Mark Gold, who's planning to take over the space for his restaurant EVA.

Gold says he opened escrow Monday and is in the process of raising the remaining capital. "I hope this deal goes through," he says. He recently had been looking in Sherman Oaks.

"The idea is I want it to be my home -- it’s an intimate enough space and small enough," Gold says. "If you were going to dinner, I'd want you to say, 'Let’s go see Mark at his house tonight and see what he's cooking.' "

Gold formerly was chef at Cafe Pinot and at Leatherby's Cafe Rouge, where he garnered three stars from Times restaurant critic S. Irene Virbila. Plans for EVA are to "keep the menu small, very seasonal and market-driven, with $20 entrees, not $30 entrees," Gold says.

I'm so excited for Mark to open his own place, ive been a huge fan of his cooking since his water grill days. He is so talented & passionate about fresh seasonal food...I'll never forget his unbelievable cherry trout from japan that he served when it was in only in season for a couple of weeks...delicious! Mark is more than just a chef...he's an artist! Can't wait for Eva to open...

Looks like this is happening -- long overdue, we've been following Chef Gold since he was first here in LA. bravo

Wow! Thanks for the info. I was wondering where the chef has been since having one of his unbelievable meals at Leatherby's Cafe Rouge. I for one will be looking forward to a Chef Gold meal. What a perfect place for the chef to make his own. I think he will make the Hatfield's proud.

Keep us posted, Alan and I will be there on opening day!

We will be looking forward to Mark's opening!
