Just as the sun was beginning to set on a recent clear evening on Vermont Avenue in Los Feliz, I looked up into the sky and saw ... bunny ears. They’re the bunny ears on top of diner hangout Fred 62 at the corner of Vermont and Russell avenues.

General manager Jimmy Gallagher made the bunny ears and had them hoisted onto the roof a couple of weeks ago. ‘Me and a guy named Zeus made them. We made them from wood, put paint on them, some pink -- what do you call that stuff? -- glitter. And then we carried them up a ladder. Actually, A.J. and Cameron put them up there with me on the ground telling them to make them a little wider.’

This past winter was the first year that reindeer went up on the roof, ‘so we wanted to do something for Easter,’ Gallagher says. ‘I don’t know what the next holiday is, but we’ll figure out something.’

The bunny ears probably will come down Monday, he says.
