This Just In: Westside Tavern opens, Susan Feniger’s Street and breakfast at Stories

Rumor has it that Susan Feniger’s Street is opening Monday; Eater LA reports that OpenTable is taking reservations for the joint starting Monday. But it’s not the only local restaurant with news about an opening. Susan Feniger’s Street, 742 N. Highland Ave., L.A. www.eatatstreet.com
When the Westside Tavern opens tonight, Westsiders will have a new option for dining and boozing before seeing the latest indie drama at the The Landmark. The place has a woodsy décor with a dozen craft beers on tap. Executive chef and managing partner Warren Schwartz (Whist, Saddle Peak Lodge, Patina) and executive chef Brenton Hammer (Whist; Phillips ChopHouse at the Hotel Phillips in Kansas City, Mo.; Celia at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee) have crafted a menu of upscale eclectic comfort food that includes appetizers like Pacific mussels with Spanish chorizo; chicken liver mousse and baby artichoke gratin. Salads include Dungeness crab cake salad and Cobb. There’s also a cheeseburger and several sandwiches including ham with fried egg, lamb French dip and portabella, and tomato with burrata. Entrees include short-rib pot roast, pork chops with onion gravy, and grilled salmon with a tangerine-cucumber vinaigrette. Still hungry? Order a side of mac ‘n cheese, Brussels sprouts with prosciutto, yam and Gruyere gratin, or house-made salt-and-vinegar chips.
You can wash them down with a classic cocktail like a Sazerac, a blackberry julep or a Moscow Mule. Or perhaps you’d prefer one of mixologist Ryan Magarian’s creations like a Blood Orange and Sage Gimlet, a Carrot and Cilantro Caipirinha or a Cantaloupe Sour made with dry gin, lemon and cantaloupe juice, clover honey syrup and orange bitters. The 12 draft beers include Green Flash West Coast IPA, North Coast Brother Thelonious, Anderson Valley Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout and North Coast Scrimshaw Pilsner.

Echo Park bookstore and café Stories will start opening at 8 a.m. for breakfast beginning Monday, March 30. It won’t be a full spread, but they’ll have coffee from Cafecito Organico as well as fresh bagels, granola, yogurt and more. Enter through the alleyway between Logan and Lemoyne. Stories, 1716 W.
