This Just In: Platine bakery is now open in Culver City [UPDATED]
Platine Sweets & Savories is now open in Culver City. Chef and founder Jamie Cantor has set up a retail space in her commercial kitchen on Washington Boulevard, where the French Laundry alum has been baking cookies (her signature ones are oatmeal cookies with Zante currants, granola, chocolate chips and walnuts), cream puffs, tiny cheesecakes, cakelettes (mini cupcakes), brownies, madeleines (vanilla brown butter, sweet cornmeal, honey almond) and lemon pieters. The latter are soft sugar cookies that have lemon oil in the dough, are soaked in a little lemonade and then rolled in lemon sugar. She also offers tiny ceramic cups of chocolate pot de crème sprinkled with a little black Hawaiian salt.
The bakery now features a display counter to showcase her baked goods -- the day's offerings -- and a grab-and-go case for drinks and, eventually, sandwiches.
For Valentine's Day, there are strawberries dipped in white and dark chocolates that look as if they're dressed in tuxedos (complete with bow tie) and hand-decorated heart-shaped cookies.
