Sign of the Times: Pay-what-you-want restaurant

Picking up the bill From the New York Daily News:

Who says there's no such thing as a free lunch?...

Every Tuesday starting Feb. 3, the Tierra Sana restaurant in Forest Hills will offer customers a "Pay What You Want" special -- meaning that patrons can drop as much green as they think their grub deserves.

Why is this in the L.A. Times as a "Sign of the Times"? The restaurant is in *Queens, N.Y.*

Clifton's Cafeteria during the 1930s in L.A. had a similar policy, but not just one day a week, and not limited to certain food items.
