Rivera, the Latin-themed restaurant from chef-owner John Sedlar that opened downtown last month, is serving lunch starting today. Lunch hours are 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday to Friday. And offerings include large plates such as: chicken breast salad with blood orange, spinach and jicama; salmon filet with polenta and confit lime; and duck ‘enfrijolada’ with poached egg, Rioja wine and cascabel chile sauce. You can start with the hot-hot-hot Yucatan-style charred habanero ‘dog’s snout’ salsa, listed on the menu as xnipek (that’s pronounced shnee-pek). And if it’s a two-fingers-of-tequila kind of lunch, there’s that too. 1050 S. Flower St., Los Angeles, (213) 749-1460.
