A cheesy proposition: If you’re looking to understand cheese on a deeper level, consider attending Andrew Steiner’s class ‘Cheese 101,’ where you’ll sample a variety of delicious cheeses and learn about the glorious history of cheese making. Let them eat fish: Eight types of fish prepared by guest chef Noriyuki Sugie will be paired with eight wines selected by Ian Blackburn of Learn About Wine at Breadbar’s latest tasting. Wine for the BoHo set: Wine returns to its proletarian roots courtesy of the Irregular Wine Tasting at the Echoplex. This month the literary counterculturists will be serving five wines from Esser Vineyards of Napa Valley and a sparkler from Spain. A clam-driven day trip Crazy for clam chowder? Head to Santa Cruz for the 28th-annual Clam Chowder Cook Off & Festival. The competition features three divisions: individuals, restaurants and corporate/media. Buy a ticket and sample as many concoctions as you can stomach. SUNDAY
Orange County dining deals: Hot on the heels of L.A.’s successful (and extended) Restaurant Week, Orange County has announced its own inaugural Restaurant Week. Beginning Sunday and lasting through Feb. 28, restaurants across the county, including the Crow Bar and Kitchen and the Loft at the Montage Resort, will offer prix-fixe lunch and dinner menus in three price tiers ($20, $30 and $40).
